Back in 2018, eight philanthropic organizations came together to raise awareness of the 2020 Census as they realized what the impact to communities would be if they missed out on the federal funding. It is estimated that due to the undercount in 2020, Florida lost approximately $11B in federal funding which has a direct effect on services and support to our local areas.
The work has already begun for the 2030 Census! The Florida Counts coalition has distributed over $380,000 in mini grants to organizations that are working to improve awareness of the process, build resources and relationships to improve the response rate and help those in traditionally hard – to – count communities participate fully.
The organizations behind Florida Counts believe that by raising awareness and working to inform local communities, we can increase the accuracy of the 2030 Census and bring the appropriate amount of federal funding into our state. Funding which will improve the lives of everyday Floridians as they live, work and play in the Sunshine State.
